Autism Speaks, the nation’s leading autism organization, has been dedicated to promoting solutions for the needs of individuals with autism and their families. Since 2018, Sons and Prophets have been a creative lead for Autism Speaks, spearheading the iconic rebrand of their visual identity.
Autism Speaks approached S+P with a critical challenge – to revamp its brand identity and messaging to reflect a more inclusive, empathetic, and collaborative approach whilst the organization’s mission remained central.

The Approach
Sons and Prophets adopted extensive research to understand the perspectives and concerns of various stakeholders, including individuals with autism, their families, advocates, healthcare professionals, and the general public.This collaborative approach ensured that the rebranding efforts were inclusive and respectful of diverse perspectives.
One of the key objectives was to ensure that the voices and perspectives of individuals with autism were prominently featured in all aspects of the organization’s branding. This involved recruiting autistic individuals for advisory roles, featuring their stories in marketing materials, and actively engaging with the autistic community on social media platforms.
There was equity in their blue puzzle piece that they wanted to maintain, yet desired a new identity that took their brand into the future. The reimagination needed to represent who they were as a global non-profit, and who they exist to serve; everybody on the autism spectrum and their families, across the lifespan.
The Autism Speaks blue maintains the traction the legacy brand had built, and the introduction of spectrum colors represents their inclusive vision and mission in a clearer way. The color palette is bright, the grainy texture represents sensory differences, and the gradient palette speaks of light, personal journeys and differences within the autism spectrum.

The rebranding efforts were met with widespread acclaim from the autism community, advocacy groups, and the general public, praising Autism Speaks for its commitment to inclusion and evolution.
The rebranding efforts laid a solid foundation for the long-term sustainability of Autism Speaks. By prioritizing inclusivity, the organization reaffirmed itself as the leader in the field of autism advocacy, support and services, and research. The Autism Speaks rebrand saw a significant increase in donations and a surge in volunteer participation.
Beyond the iconic brand creation, Sons and Prophets spearhead hundreds of projects for Autism Speaks each year including national commercial spots for broadcast and radio, mission and fundraiser videos, and profile stories.
